Tech CU Honored as One of Silicon Valley’s Most Philanthropic Companies

Silicon Valley Business Journal recognizes the top 50 corporations giving back.

San Jose, Calif. (October 22, 2015) —Tech CU (Technology Credit Union) is honored to have been named by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of the most philanthropic companies in the region. The credit union will be feted among the top 50 corporate givers at the Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Awards, held on November 5.

“We’re extremely proud to be recognized among so many iconic brands — companies that are known for being some of the most community-minded in the Valley,” said Janikke Klem, Tech CU’s VP of Community and Government Relations. “We may not be as large as many of the organizations on the list, but Tech CU, its employees and its members always give big with their hearts, time and money . . . and that makes all the difference.”

In 2014, Tech CU donated more than $100,000 in cash and performed 350 volunteer hours — this is in addition to the more than $1.2 million the credit union has invested in Bay Area communities since 2007.

The credit union’s community partners include organizations that support STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math), workforce development, financial literacy, affordable housing, and health and wellness. These include the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Family Giving Tree and San Jose State University, to name a few.

Most recently, Tech CU held a very successful Community Grant Challenge to celebrate the opening of its newest branch in San Francisco. Three nonprofits received cash grants from the credit union based on voting by the community. GLIDE Foundation was the top vote getter, receiving $10,000, with New Door Ventures receiving $3,000 and Full Circle Fund receiving $2,000.
