Peninsula Volunteers: Connecting You to What Matters
We are proud to announce that we have funded and received a matching grant for an exciting initiative with Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. (PVI), an organization dedicated to enabling seniors to age in place so they can remain engaged, independent members of the local community.
The initiative will use funds donated by Tech CU to support seniors without a technology device and internet to connect with the world. Engraved with the phrase “connecting you to what matters,” the iPads and free internet access will allow PVI to enhance seniors' lives during the pandemic and beyond, helping prevent loneliness and isolation as they adjust to a “virtual connection” world in light of the lasting effects of COVID-19.
Getting them “connected” will help seniors find the joy in reconnecting with family, friends, and critical virtual programming and appointments.
“It is great to be working with our community partner Technology Credit Union. Because of them we will be able to provide internet access to seniors who, for the past year, have been sheltering in place with no ability to connect to the outside world. Working with Tech CU, we are aiming to change that,” said Peter Olson, CEO of Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.
As part of their support, Tech CU is also developing training videos for the seniors focusing on online safety as well as how to use the devices and various apps.
“We believe that we have a responsibility to help improve the well-being of the communities we serve,” said Richard Ruiz, Vice President and Head of Emerging Markets at Tech CU. “That is why we chose to partner with Peninsula Volunteers, an organization that addresses the most pressing issues of aging adults by offering critical services to sustain their daily physical, nutritional, emotional and mental health.”
We’re excited to see where this partnership leads us and look forward to continuing our common commitment to the community. To learn more about PVI, please visit: https://www.penvol.org/.
