Tech CU Supports Shine in Building Brighter Futures

At Tech CU, we believe in the power of education, opportunity, and community. That’s why we’re proud to support Shine, a Bay Area nonprofit that creates brighter futures for two generations: young mothers and their children.

Formerly known as Teen Success, Inc., Shine helps young moms complete high school, pursue college or career certificates, and build a strong foundation for their families. Through one-on-one coaching, life skills development, and early childhood support, Shine opens the door to long-term success—both for the women in the program and their children.

And the results speak for themselves. Since its founding in 2011, Shine has supported more than 1,600 families. Over 85% of participants graduate from high school—compared to just 38% of teen moms nationally—and 69% are pursuing or have completed post-secondary education or a career certificate. That’s 21 times the national average for young mothers.

The children are thriving, too. Nearly 90% are meeting key language development milestones, preparing them for kindergarten and giving them a strong start in life.
