Participate in Tech CU’s Family Giving Tree 2024 Backpack Drive and Equip Students for Success

The Family Giving Tree (FGT) Backpack Drive has officially begun.
Despite the immense wealth in Silicon Valley, and partly due to the high cost of living and inflation, many families are unable to afford basic school supplies. This means that for many families, back-to-school season brings a mix of emotions—the excitement of new classes and old friends tempered by the financial strain of purchasing all the necessary supplies.
That is why Tech CU has partnered with FGT on its annual Backpack Drive, which aims to bridge this gap, ensuring that students from low-income families have the tools they need to go back to school as prepared as their peers.
Participating in the Annual Backpack Drive is simple and incredibly rewarding. Here are a few ways you can join Tech CU in helping kids succeed this upcoming school year:
- Participate in Tech CU’s Drive
- Donate to Family Giving Tree, allowing it to bulk-purchase backpacks/supplies and expand its reach.
- Donate to the Bonus Bundle Bonanza: Bonus Bundles include newly requested supplies, as well as hard-to-find pricier items, that FGT is committed to providing to every student recipient.
- Sponsor a Backpack: Each sponsored backpack is fully equipped with school supplies and ready for a child in need.
- Volunteer: Join the community of volunteers who gather to pack and distribute backpacks. It’s a great way to make a tangible difference.
- Spread the Word: Use your social media platforms or community networks to raise awareness about the drive – especially this need for hydration packs as outlined in this YouTube video. The more people know, the greater the impact.
The benefits of the Annual Backpack Drive ripple throughout the community. Students enter the school year ready to learn, parents are relieved of financial stress, and volunteers enjoy the fulfillment that comes from helping others. This initiative not only prepares students for success in the upcoming school year but also strengthens our community.
For 34 years, the Family Giving Tree has been steadfastly committed to serving those most in need. Tech CU is proud to have played role in these initiatives, donating backpacks and supplies to Bay Area children who may have otherwise gone without any gift at all last holiday season.
Family Giving Tree has served over two million children and individuals throughout the greater Bay Area, actively endeavors to inspire the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism in the community, and has grown to become the largest backpack donation program in California.
