Card Security When Traveling
Planning for Travel with a Tech CU Debit or Credit Card
In the past, credit unions and banks asked members to let them know when they were traveling to avoid having purchases flagged as suspicious. Today, Tech CU uses smart fraud detection tools that recognize your spending patterns—even when you're traveling or making purchases abroad. So, there's no need to notify Tech CU with a travel notification.
What should you do before traveling?
- Update Contact Information: Tech CU may still contact you if something seems unusual, so make sure your email address and phone numbers on file with Tech CU are current before you leave. This way if we need to reach out to you, we can quickly resolve any issues that arise. You can make these changes in online or mobile banking.
- Check the back of your card for supported ATM networks. Our ATM networks include Velera, Plus, Star, and Allpoint.
- Set Up Account alerts: Get notified of any activity taking place on your account for that extra layer of confidence and security when using your card in unfamiliar locations.
- Carry backup forms of payment: While rare, fraud prevention measures may temporarily restrict card usage.
Bottom Line
You’re free to travel without notifying Tech CU. Just keep your contact details current and monitor your account for peace of mind.
