Sound Password Construction & Maintenance Procedures
Passwords are a critical component of information security — serving to protect your accounts. A poorly constructed password, however, may result in the compromise of an individual system, data or network. This guideline applies to all password creation — including but not limited to Online Banking.
Guidelines
- Create a different password for each online account.
- Do not use people's names or special dates as passwords
- Use syllables or acronyms. Avoid using complete words that would appear in a dictionary regardless of the language.
- A strong password mixes both letters and symbols. Use a combination of at least two of the following types: Letters, numbers or characters (!"#$%()+,-/;=?[ ]^_`{|}*).
- Note:For Online Banking passwords, please DO NOT include the following characters:€, §, £, ¥, •, ~,&
- Change your password regularly, especially for financial and email accounts. Try not to match your 10 prior passwords
- Never write down a password. Instead, try to create one that you can easily remember. One way to do this is by creating a password based on a song title or phrase. For example, the phrase, "This May Be One Way to Remember" could become the password: TmB1w2R!
Additional Safety Standards
Please know that Tech CU will only ask you to verify your identity via phone when it is necessary for fraud prevention in the case of suspicious transactions. In this case, you may be asked to provide your member number, your debit or credit card number, and your social security number. However, you will never be asked to verify a one-time password. In addition, do not ever provide your passwords to anyone via email or over the phone. Any valid institution will not ask for this type of information.
Transaction Security
When using Online Banking, applying for a loan, or submitting an online form, your information is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS). With TLS encryption, your information is protected while in transit between your computer and Tech CU.
Online Surveys and Drawings
From time to time we conduct online surveys. We collect your responses to improve our understanding about your needs so that we can improve the products and services we provide. In these cases we will ask for your name and contact information (such as your phone number and email address) so that we can notify you if you are a winner. Participation in surveys or drawings is always voluntary.
