A few words from Barbara Kamm, CEO — November 2014
I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to receive a “Champions of Change” award at the White House, where, along with eight other business leaders, we discussed the importance of promoting citizenship for economic development. This is a topic I have been passionate about for quite a while now — it is so important for our global competitiveness that we be able to retain the highly skilled students we train at our universities, and the highly skilled workers who fill critical roles at our tech companies. Something I am very proud of is that Tech CU was one of the first Bay Area companies to partner with the National Immigration Forum’s New American Workforce (formerly the Bethlehem Project) — providing free seminars with information on citizenship services to our green card holding employees and members.
Something else I’m incredibly proud of is how both Tech CU employees and our members came together to raise money for cancer through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s
Light the Night Walk in October. We far exceeded our goal by raising close to $22,000! Thank you so much to everyone who participated for both your generosity and time given. I firmly believe the research this fundraising supports will one day find the cure to cancer.
With November coming to a close, it would be wonderful to see you at the Turkey Trot — one of my favorite holiday events! Tech CU will have a team of employees, family members and friends out to run and support our local food banks, children’s health and affordable housing.
Finally, as we approach the end of the year, our thoughts tend to turn to friends, family and spending time with loved ones. We wish you a safe holiday and, at this time of “thanks,” we want you to know how much we appreciate your being a member of Tech CU.
