Message from Barbara Kamm
Respecting our environment and embracing “green” energy alternatives has always been a focus at Tech CU — be it through our community involvement or our own daily practices. We’re making some changes to our facilities in the coming months, some more obvious than others, but all geared toward shrinking our energy footprint.
Beginning this month, we will be installing solar panels in the parking lot and on the roof of our headquarters at 2010 N. First Street. We expect the panels to supply approximately 20% of the building’s electrical power needs! We have also replaced the neon signage outside our headquarters with LEDs, and we plan to install LED lighting to replace the traditional fluorescent or sodium bulbs inside all of our branches. The new lighting is already a feature in our new and redesigned branches (Fremont, San Francisco and San Jose).
Other “green” improvements that we have implemented in recent years include updating our HVAC system, reducing landscaping where appropriate around our headquarters to reduce water usage, installing automatic light and water shut-off systems in all of our restrooms and providing sustainable paper goods in our break rooms. We even offer an eWaste Day twice a year where you can dispose of all electronics and documents safely. These actions have led to lower operating costs for Tech CU, while allowing us to do our part when it comes to conserving energy.
Finally, with the holidays quickly approaching, I always try to take a moment to slow down and think about the sentiment of this time of year, beyond the presents and parties. It’s about spending quality time with friends and family, and hopefully recharging as we head towards a new year.
I want to wish you and your family a joyous and healthy holiday. We appreciate your support and look forward to serving you in 2016.
