Thinking of selling your home this winter?

Mid-winter can be a good time to put your home on the market – it gives you a slight jump on the spring market and you’ll catch those buyers who are already starting to think about where they want to be living by the summer. It’s not always the prettiest time of the year, however, with leafless trees and bare porches. Here are a couple of tips for sprucing your home up to rid it of those winter blahs.

• Slap on a coat of fresh paint. This can make all the difference in the world when there is not much foliage to cover faded and cracking paint around the outside of your house.
• If you’ve got a fence, paint it as well. Most home experts recommend that it be the same color as your house’s siding.
• Make sure your outside bulbs are working, or add more. Lights, guiding a guest up your walkway, can be incredibly appealing, safer and attractive.
• Clean your gutters – no, it isn’t fun, but nothing says “unkempt” like dirty gutters.
• Put colorful winter blooms next to your front door. These immediately brighten things up to make the entrance more welcoming.
• Wash your front windows til they sparkle! Don’t you always notice the grime on windows that face the street? Also, make sure that you sweep your porch and display your outdoor furniture. All of this gives prospective buyers a more cozy and homey sense of what your house can look like after the winter gloom wears off.
• Finally, make sure that your front lawn looks tended to. Get rid of dead flowers and plants. Try to make it look organized and neat.
