New Year’s Resolutions That Are Good for Your Wallet

After a tough year, a New Year's resolution is a great way to start 2021 with newfound optimism and strength. Here are some financially-focused resolutions you can make in 2021!
Learn a New Skill
Picking up a new skill—knitting, building coffee tables, grilling the perfect steak, pastry making—can be a great way to become a better you. (I mean, who doesn't want to learn how to make snickerdoodles?) However, these can be good money-saving hobbies as well. For instance, learning to make a home-cooked meal can save you big—upwards of $20 per meal when compared to a restaurant dinner.
Try Money-Making Resolutions
If you’re feeling the pinch and need some extra dough this year, try some money-generating resolutions. Have a busy closet? Clear the clutter and consider selling some clothes online or to a consignment store. Similarly, a messy garage can turn into a (socially-distant) yard sale.
Love dogs? Try dog walking on the side. Have a thing for cars? Offer to detail vehicles for a reasonable fee. Even advanced knowledge, like knowing a second language or how to calculate interest (which we are pretty good at!) can become an online course you can offer people all around the world!
Start an Emergency Fund
Last year was hard, especially on our wallets. This year, make it a priority (if you have the means) to try and replenish your emergency savings. It may be especially difficult to put away funds after recovering from hardship, but you can gain real serenity and control knowing that you will be building up your safety net in 2021.

Tackle Debt
As much as one may resolve to "eliminate all debt," that's not always realistic. Instead, make it a part of your New Year's resolution to better your debt situation. For instance, if you need to reduce your debt or make it more manageable, debt consolidation could be a good solution for you, helping you move what you owe into a single payment at a lower interest rate.
