Best Deals for the Fall Season

With fall rapidly approaching, it’s helpful to take stock of what goes on sale this time of the year so you can get the best deals.
New cars
Many car dealers start to mark down older (i.e. the current year) car models beginning in September. Because many new models are released at the end of the year, dealerships need to clear their lots for the latest looks. Although you can get the best deals in late November and December, you’ll have a greater selection in October.
Appliances
Similar to cars, new models of most major appliances tend to roll out in September and October. This means that many retailers will mark down the “old” ones (is there really a difference between a 2016 vs. 2017 dishwasher?). Look for sales during Labor Day weekend, Veteran’s Day, Black Friday and other holiday weekends leading to Christmas.
Halloween candy (literally the next day)
After Halloween, all themed candy must be cleared out to make way for the upcoming Christmas holiday season – so stock up if you have a sweet tooth. Not only will candy be deeply discounted, but so will decorations, party goods and costumes. Be smart and plan ahead for next year!
Airline tickets and vacations
Because fall is a bit of an in-between season travel-wise and kids are in school, you can often get better deals on airline tickets and vacation packages. Airlines need volume (planes have to fly regardless of whether they are half full) so will offer lower prices and deals.
Wine
The all-important harvest season at vineyards tends to fall between late summer and mid-fall, meaning that many new vintages will be on the shelf starting as early as September. The prior year’s wine (more likely to be the less expensive vintages) could go on sale as stores make way for new inventory.
Other good buys during the fall season: bicycles, beach chairs, dishes and cutlery for use outside, sunglasses and grills due to their seasonality.
