Ms. Nelson is honored with the prestigious 2012 ATHENA Leadership Award®
San Jose, CA (October 24, 2012) — Technology Credit Union is pleased to congratulate SVP of Wealth Management Rebecca Matteson Nelson for being honored with the 2012 ATHENA Leadership Award® presented by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce. Since its inception in 1982, The ATHENA Leadership Award® Program has honored more than 6,000 leaders in over 500 communities in the U.S. and internationally for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
“It is with pride and honor that the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce recognizes Rebecca for its 26th anniversary of the Athena Award,” said the organization. “Rebecca epitomizes and embodies the spirit of the Athena Award.”
Prior to joining Tech CU, Sherrard served as Regional Manager and Senior Vice President of Northern California Real Estate for City National Bank and as Senior Vice President and Construction Lending Group Manager at Greater Bay Bank. He also served as Vice President, Commercial and Real Estate Lending Officer, with Pacific Western Bank — which was later acquired by Comerica Bank.
ATHENA Leadership Awards® are presented annually by chambers of commerce, women’s organizations and universities. The award is established through local host organizations in partnership with ATHENA International. By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Leadership Award® Program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives.

Ms. Nelson, a Palo Alto native, has a 25-year background in the financial services industry, including division leadership and management roles in sales, administration, trust services, and investments at national and community banks and credit unions. In her role at Tech CU, Ms. Nelson leads an experienced team of wealth management professionals who provide full-service private banking and investment solutions to Tech CU members and their families, as well as to Silicon Valley companies and their employees.
Ms. Nelson holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has completed post-graduate coursework at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. She is deeply involved in the Bay Area community, serving many Palo Alto and Silicon Valley area non-profits, community organizations and professional associations. These include but are not limited to: The Palo Alto Medical Foundation, The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program, Palo Alto Art Center Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House at Stanford, and The El Camino Hospital Foundation.
