Tech CU supports community-giving programs for students.
San Jose, CA (August 6, 2010) — The end of summer is just around the corner and that means it’s time for kids to head back to the classroom. Technology Credit Union is joining dozens of businesses throughout the Bay Area to support a back-to-school backpack drive for children in need of basic school supplies.
The drive runs Monday, August 2 through Friday, August 13. Individuals who would like to donate new school supplies and backpacks can do so at any of Tech CU’s nine financial centers located throughout the Bay Area.
During the month of August, Tech CU is also helping to rebuild the library at Trace Elementary School, which was significantly burned by an arsonist on July 5. Trace Elementary is a bilingual visual and performing arts school in the San Jose Unified School District. It is the largest elementary school in the city, and administrators are working hard to get the campus ready so that its 1,000 K-5 students can start school on August 16.
Tech CU, along with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and many other local companies and community organizations, are helping the school by donating new or gently used books (K-5 reading level). You can drop off your donation at any of Tech CU’s nine financial centers between Monday, August 2 and Friday, August 13.
You can also make a donation online to the Trace Elementary School Fire Fund. Simply go to the San Jose Unified School District website.
All donations submitted to the Fire Fund at the community foundation will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000. Proceeds will go to Trace Elementary to support additional teachers’ needs, including classroom supplies, while helping to meet the school’s $100,000 insurance deductible.
Plug In to Back–to–School Days at Tech CU
Finally, for parents who want to get their high school and college age kids started on managing their own finances, Tech CU is hosting its Back-to-School Days’ event on Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14. Parents can bring their children to a Tech CU financial center and open up a Plug In Click Checking account. Open up an account and your child will receive a free iTunes gift card!
