Tech CU Remodels Its Flagship Branch in San Jose with Innovative New Design
Credit union honors its Silicon Valley roots while looking to the future by offering interactive technology and a unique design geared to enhancing the member experience.
San Jose, Calif. (November 6, 2015) —Tech CU (Technology Credit Union) officially re-opened its newly remodeled flagship branch in San Jose on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and event attended by Tech CU members, as well as such dignitaries as San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Matt Mahoood and more.
San Jose’s remodel is among several branch changes Tech CU is making in 2015. The credit union recently opened its first branch in San Francisco, located in the Mission District near Twitter and Square, and relocated its Fremont branch. Each features an innovative design with interactive technology to help members learn about personal finance, and a layout to facilitate one-on-one conversations with Tech CU’s financial experts. The branches also feature workstations with free Wi-Fi and a conference room that can be reserved for member use.
“Feedback on the new design has been very positive,” said Debra Bowman, senior vice president of Retail Banking for Tech CU. “People are telling us they like the intimacy of the space — that it doesn’t ‘feel like a bank,’ when they walk in. We also have several members who are now regularly using the conference rooms for their personal business meetings.”
The San Jose branch remodel is particularly meaningful to the credit union due to it being the company’s headquarters — symbolizing the credit union’s historic relationship with Silicon Valley. (Tech CU was founded in 1960 by employees of Fairchild Semiconductor, one of the Valley’s seminal technology companies.) It also represents Tech CU’s future, as the credit union continues to innovate and provide the kind of personal expertise and education necessary for its members to succeed financially.
At the ceremony, Mayor Liccardo awarded Tech CU a City of San Jose Certificate of Accommodation, honoring the credit union’s 55 years of service and support in the region.
“I am so grateful this is a credit union that believes deeply in fulfilling its role of leadership in so many ways — and supporting the community,” said Liccardo. “I wish we had more Tech CU’s throughout the Valley, because it would make this world a better place.”
