Technology Credit Union Exceeds Year-Over-Year Donations and Giving to Bay Area Communities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The credit union reflects on its community program in 2012
San Jose, CA (December 19, 2012) — Technology Credit Union has much to be proud of in 2012. Once again, the company’s employees and members have given very generously to help the local communities that Tech CU serves — exceeding last year’s contributions to the tune of more than $187,000 in monetary donations and 1,400 volunteer hours (18 and 17 percent increases over 2011 respectively). These resources go directly to both neighborhood and regional organizations that impact the lives of those in need.
"As a community financial institution, Tech CU is very involved in helping people and improving the quality of life in the areas we serve," said Kim Vu, vice president of social impact, innovation and community relationships. "Not only do our employees volunteer their time, they’re also involved in leadership in their communities through nonprofits and other types of organizations — as members of boards and political, civic and economic development committees."
Vu says that Tech CU will continue its focus in 2013 on giving to programs and organizations that support STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), financial literacy programs, youth wraparound services, housing and economic development, and innovation and technology.
Some of the organizations and programs that Tech CU supported in 2012 include:
- 1,000 Hearts for 1,000 Minds
- Bill Wilson Center
- Breakthrough Silicon Valley
- Family Giving Tree
- Girls For A Change
- Intel Math Laboratory for Learning for Teachers
- Second Harvest Food Bank
- Silicon Valley Education Foundation
A recent example of Tech CU’s charitable involvement includes the Family Giving Tree. According to Family Giving Tree Executive Director and "Queen Elf" Jennifer Cullenbine, "With Tech CU's sponsorship this year [of our Back Pack Drive], we were able to fully support some of the area's neediest kids, helping them to go back to school ready to learn. The partnership with Tech CU has really helped us expand our program and reach the kids who need us most."
