San Jose, CA (5-Dec-05)—Technology Credit Union (Tech CU), a Silicon Valley-based financial institution, teamed up with Garden Gate Elementary School in Cupertino, CA and the Cupertino Office of Emergency Services to prepare parents and their children for emergencies.
Nina Daruwalla, PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) Safety Chair at Garden Gate Elementary School, has been a long-time member of Technology Credit Union. In September 2005, Ms. Daruwalla approached the Credit Union seeking sponsors for the school’s emergency preparedness program, including an Emergency Preparedness event on October 5, 2005.
Tech CU donated $1000 toward emergency supplies for the school, including tents, stretchers, and water. Kathleen Litman, Vice President of Marketing said, “At Tech CU, our number one priority is to meet the needs of the people we serve. This includes first and foremost our members but also the community as a whole. We welcomed this opportunity to help educate the students at Garden Gate Elementary and their parents about preparedness.”
The Emergency Preparedness night was a success with over 250 participants. Marsha Hovey, representing the Cupertino Office of Emergency Services, taught parents about earthquake preparedness, while the children attended sessions with representatives from the Police and Fire Departments to learn about bicycle safety, fire safety, and how to protect themselves from “stranger danger.”
The Credit Union’s strong commitment to making the community a better place extends beyond providing first-rate financial services. Tech CU’s involvement in the community includes free educational seminars on real estate and investing, sponsoring non-profit organizations, and giving generous charitable donations. Organizations that Tech CU proudly supports include the American Red Cross, HOPE Services, the Vanished Children’s Alliance, Girls for a Change, and Vision Literacy.
