Technology Credit Union Donates Over $17K to Hurricane Relief Effort
San Jose, CA, (Sept. 20, 2005)—More than three weeks after Katrina slammed into the Golf Coast, relief efforts are still under way in what the American Red Cross has called the most costly hurricane relief effort in its history. As Technology Credit Union (Tech CU) announced previously, the organization and its employees are contributing to the recovery efforts by (i) providing its members with free domestic wire transfers to the affected areas, (ii) matching all employee donations to major charities linked to the disaster relief and (iii) dispatching Tech CU volunteers to the local chapter of the American Red Cross to provide administrative support and to help expedite the local response.
In the three weeks following the disaster, Tech CU's employees donated over $8,500 to the Red Cross and other large non-profit organizations assisting with the relief efforts. Tech CU matched these employee donations, which brought the total donation amount to $17,421.

Twelve Tech CU employees volunteered at the local Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the Red Cross to provide continuous help with data entry and management of the front desk during the week of September 12. All of the Tech CU volunteers described their experience as uplifting and gratifying. One admitted: "It touched my heart when I took in donations from three separate families who brought their kids in to give the money they raised from lemonade and bake sales."
Several other employees gave time to the Red Cross at different locations, volunteered at other charities, traveled to shelters at the site of the natural disaster, or donated their vacation days.
