New Wireless Telephone Laws Effective July 1, 2008
On July 1, 2008, two new wireless telephone laws go into effect that will regulate the use of a wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle in the state of California.
The first law prohibits the use of a handheld wireless telephone while driving (Vehicle Code (VC) §23123) by motorists 18 years or older. The use of a “hands-free” device is allowed for those motorists 18 years or older only.
The second law prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless telephone or “hands-free” device while operating a motor vehicle
(VC §23124).
