Travel Planning Tips

Whether traveling for a business meeting, a family visit, or that once-in-a-lifetime special vacation, you don't want to be caught with an expired card or an invalid PIN number. Take some time to review the tips below. We can assure you they will help eliminate any unpleasant surprises on your next trip.

Before You Leave
  • Check your Tech CU VISA Credit Card and VISA check card for their expiration date.
  • In preparation for your trip, check out our ATM Locator for VISA ATMs around the world, including destination airports.
  • When traveling internationally, it is recommended that your Personal Identification Number (PIN) be four (4) digits. If your PIN is longer than four (4) digits, please drop by one of our branches to change it.
  • Many foreign ATMs do not use alphanumeric keypads. If you have an alphabetic PIN, translate the letters into numbers before leaving the country.
  • Memorize your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and do not write it down. Do not disclose your PIN to anyone.
  • Test your PIN before you travel.
  • Photocopy the back and front of your card(s) and keep this record separate from the cards themselves.
  • Ensure that there are sufficient funds/credit in your account.
  • Before you leave on a trip, make a note of the toll-free emergency number for your destination and keep it with you, but separate from your card. You can find your destination's toll free number by going to VISA Global Customer Assistance Service.
  • Be sure to call or send a secure Online Banking email to a Tech CU representative before you leave on a trip to let us know that you’ll be traveling. We will put a note on your account that the Fraud Services team will review in conjunction with any transactions made with your check card. Keep in mind, however, we may still elect to block your card for your protection.
While You Travel
  • Keep your eyes on your Tech CU VISA Credit Card and VISA check card when paying for goods or services.
  • Check that the information on the sales voucher is correct.
  • Always keep your copies of the sales vouchers and check them against your statement when you return home.
  • For expensive items, request a written quotation from the merchant as additional proof of the agreed price.
  • If any of your cards are lost or stolen, call the card issuer immediately to have your card blocked.
