In our last article we discussed how many parts of California are prone to both natural and man-made disasters.  Giving you some ideas to consider to better protect your home and belongings.

So now you have updated your insurance policy to reflect the current cost to rebuild your home and you have taken an inventory of your personal contents.  You have considered and possibly purchased flood and earthquake insurance to better protect your home and belongings.

You now know your policy is sufficient to restore the things you own. 

Now What?

Consider the following:

Raise your deductible. 
Increasing the deductible will lower the annual premium for your policy.  Increasing the deductible from $500 to $1,000 may save you as much as 10% or more.  Many companies are now offering even higher deductibles to reduce your premium even more.  Of course, be prepared to pay the deductible amount if something happens. 

Insure your home and auto together.
